Meredith Mitchell DeSantis works as the Head of Visitor Experience at Hillwood Estate, Museum & Gardens in Washington, DC. She is responsible for ensuring that every guest who visits Hillwood enjoys an excellent experience. She started her journey at Hillwood as the group sales, special events, and tourism manager in 2016. After three years of hard work, she got promoted to her current position. Meredith holds a BA in History from Clemson University. She also completed her Master’s in museum studies from John Hopkins University.

Meredith discusses her current work and passion

As the Head of Visitor Experience at Hillwood Estate, Museum & Gardens in Washington, DC, I am passionate about offering an inspirational and educational experience to our visitors. I love working for a cultural institution because it’s wonderful to spend time around others who value learning and appreciate the transformative potential of history. These experiences not only teach and inspire us, but they also bring us together. Art crosses languages, cultures, and borders. In our diverse and complex world, art can help us understand and appreciate those who are different from us — a particularly important task at a time of rising polarization in our country.

Her Convening Takeaway

My favorite moments so far took place at the convening, where I got to hear so many inspirational stories and passionate goals. Sitting with different classmates every day and getting to connect with so many like-minded people from all over the world really made me feel that I’m part of something special.

Advice for Future Applicants

My advice would be to take full advantage of the wealth of experience and knowledge of your fellow classmates and instructors! From all over the world and from every corner of social impact, there is so much knowledge, passion, and inspiration to revel in. Engage and get as much out of it as you can!
