We bring together the best of both worlds in the learning design for our Executive Program for Social Impact Strategy. In addition to taking online courses on social impact, students attend a three-day gathering at the University of Pennsylvania to meet one another in-person.
My personal mission is the same as my company’s – to make it easier to do the right thing; to support and uplift individuals on their journey to become more conscientious beings and neighbors; to internally know that your choices matter and to want to make good choices. We create tools, like field service software that allow people everywhere to see the social and environmental impact we all have on our communities.
When I arrived at GSIH, I was burning out. I had been playing around with my venture for about a year, and things had gotten stale. I was grasping at straws, trying to figure out what to do and where to go next. I had the absorbing feeling that I did not know what I was doing, and it was paralyzing. GSIH was my Hail Mary. I’d like to share six things I learned that pushed me from stagnancy to action.
PIL originated from our Social Impact House programs, and is offered to Penn undergraduate and graduate students who want to learn how to turn their ideas into action. Selected for the potential of their ideas and their passion, the fellows learn the tools and mindset in Costa Rica to build out their ideas over the course of the spring semester.
It started with the five week Social Entrepreneurship class on Coursera, where thousands of people convened online to learn the fundamentals of building profitable businesses that make a positive impact on the world. Hundreds of those students applied for one of 23 spots in a week-long leadership program called Global Social Impact House. The house is put on by the Center for Social Impact Strategy, a research and action center with the mission that anyone, anywhere can create positive change in their communities.

At the Center for Social Impact Strategy, we know that bringing in new perspectives can only enhance a community. That’s why we’re pleased to announce a partnership with Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs (SIPA). We are proud to extend our programming to their network of entrepreneurs and innovators, and to collaborate on marshaling resources for our community of changemakers.
The Center for Social Impact Strategy is pleased to announce the graduation of the first successful cohort of its Executive Program. This August, CSIS awarded certificates of completion to a remarkable thirty-two students. This inaugural cohort represented 12 countries around the world.
Taking our Coursera course in Social Entrepreneurship just got even easier. Last year, the Center for Social Impact Strategy offered the course for the first time to more than 30,000 students from dozens of countries around the world. Consisting of a series of video lectures offered by SP2 and Wharton professors Peter Frumkin, James D. Thompson, and Ian MacMillan, the course led students through an overview of what AdInfusion.com enterprise does, and how to design, assess, and test models for new social ventures.
