What is GSIH?

GSIH is a seven-day residential program that provides fellows with the tools, community support, and training they need to advance their ventures. Workshops are customized to the needs of fellows and explore advanced concepts in business models, design thinking, and leadership. The program is also designed to help fellows build meaningful, global connections while living together in an inspiring host location.

When and where will GSIH be?

The next program will be January 25-31, 2020 at Cotton Tree Lodge in Belize.

Who attends GSIH?

The Global Social Impact House brings together 20 global social entrepreneurs, creative intrapreneurs, community alchemists, and innovators who are actively working on a social impact initiative. Each cohort is different: Fellows come from every sector, and are working on a multitude of social and environmental issues using many different tools. We certainly haven’t seen it all yet! Past Fellows’ work has focused on environmental conservation education, socially conscious news media, urban gardens, solar-powered appliances, affordable housing, gentrification prevention, impact investing, and fashion design — and everything in between. There is no mold for this type of work, so show us what you’ve got!

What will GSIH Fellows walk away with?

While aspects of the program’s impact are difficult to measure – and will be customized for the 2020 cohort – Fellows will certainly walk away with a community of collaborators and supporters, as well as a handful of new frameworks and exercises for strengthening their social impact work and leadership skills. Fellows will also complete a crash course in design thinking while on-site delivered by a subject-area expert.

Who can apply?

Anyone who has completed the University of Pennsylvania’s Coursersa in Social Impact Strategy is welcome to apply. We encourage applicants with a compelling and tested concept for social impact. There is no age, education, geography, or other requirement.

What are the prerequisites?

The only required prerequisite is completion of the University of Pennsylvania’s Coursera in Social Impact Strategy. This course is free, online, and can be completed at the pace of the learner; you do not need to follow the schedule of the course. All applicants will be required to upload proof of completion of the course before they will be allowed to submit their application. Anyone who applies without proof of completion will not be considered.

How much does it cost?

Every Fellow receives a full program scholarship to attend, including all accommodation and food during the program, and all required program materials.

Fellows must cover the cost of travel, including flights, visa-related expenses, and any other related travel expense to- and from the host location. The Center is not able to provide any funding for travel.

What ongoing support or networks are available to Fellows after GSIH?

GSIH alumni are part of the CSIS global network, a growing community of 1000+ changemakers and community builders. After the program, Fellows will be able to participate in community-wide events and online platforms.

How can I apply?

Start your application today! You’ll need to submit short answers, a brief 1-2 minute video, and proof of completing the Coursera class.

Applications are due October 24th by midnight.
