This film draws on the work of James Baldwin to illustrate the story of America and the living and present history of racism that lies at its center. As Baldwin asserts, “The story of the Negro in America is the story of America, and it is not a pretty story.” The film draws on Baldwin’s and other Black intellectuals’ written and spoken words, as well as images from American popular culture, to illuminate how our failure to reconcile with this reality is our collective undoing. A relevant and necessary examination of the American racial consciousness.
